Arts & Culture

The Center Holds a Wide Range of Arts & Entertainment Programs and Events Including Our Major Cultural Events

The Center holds a wide range of arts & entertainment programs and events including our major cultural events: Black Voice, HERstory and Baltimore Pride. The Center is also home to an LGBTQ newspaper archive, Free Book Exchange and Giovanni’s Room Open Mic.

Giovanni’s Room Open Mic is a monthly open mic that allows sexual and gender minorities in Baltimore’s arts & culture community to exhibit their talent through song, poetry and comedy.  Each month we showcase a featured artist and we invite artists to sign up & perform their creative work. This is a safe & affirming space for poets, singers, rappers, dancers, and comedians of all sexualities, gender identities, and gender expressions. Giovanni’s Room proves to be different from other open mics around the city by giving artists and vendors who are sexual and gender minorities the rare opportunity to share their skills with their community without fear of judgment, ridicule, or undue scrutiny. If you are interested in vending at Giovanni’s Room Open Mic, please email info@glccb.org ($5) Giovanni’s Room Open Mic is held 1st Fridays from 7-10 PM

Giovanni’s Room Poetry Workshop is dedicated to supporting the craft of writers who are sexual and gender minorities at all skill levels. The workshop is threefold: we begin with a free write activity, then workshop time for writers with pieces in progress, and finally, an extended writing activity, which incorporates the use of a literary device. Between these folds are active and organic discussions based on the poems, held in a safe and confidential space for writers to support each other without shame. ($5 suggested donation) Giovanni’s Room Poetry Workshop takes place every 1st Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 PM

STAR TRACK’S monthly Vogue Night is a 4 hour practice session for participants with free resources, free food and most importantly, VOGUING! Vogue Night provides the Ball community with the opportunity to build community and receive resources in a safe space. Vogue Night takes place on 4th Wednesdays from 6:30-9:30 PM

Vogue Workshop with STAR TRACK is an instructional vogue class that increases opportunities & access to resources for the Ball community. It is a complement to STAR TRACK’s monthly Vogue Night with experienced voguers who help beginners as they develop their craft. Vogue Workshop takes place on 2nd Wednesdays from 6:00-9:00 PM

Charm City Sisters/Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a charity, protest, and street performance organization that uses drag and religious imagery to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirizes issues of gender and morality. Charm City Sisters meets every 2nd Wednesday from 6:30-8 PM
